Fractus designs and manufactures optimised antennas
for mobile handsets, short-range wireless devices and telecommunications infrastructure by applying the science
of fractal mathematics to antenna development.
Fractus was granted the world’s fi rst patent for Fractal antennas® in 1998 and has 37 granted and pending patents in the different markets in which it operates. As a result of its
continued R&D in the communications industry, Fractus was awarded the Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation award in 2004 and was selected as a 2005 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum.
The space-filling and multi-band properties of fractal geometries enable Fractus to achieve increased antenna performance and/or reduced antenna size with optimum multi-band functionality.
The company provides a high standard of customer service and technical support for antenna design engineers, project and programme managers and antenna purchasers worldwide to ensure development and production of optimal wireless devices.
Fractus enables its customers keep up with the cycle of miniaturisation in today’s wireless telecommunications industry.
Patent Portfolio
Fractus’ patent portfolio relates to both antenna design based on fractal technologies, and the application of antennas within wireless devices (mobile telephones, Bluetooth®, WLAN, Base Station Antennas, Antenna in Package, etc.). These patents protect the company’s inventions worldwide.
Manufacturing
Fractus manufacturing is managed under strict ISO9000-accredited guidelines to ensure production of consistent, reliable antennas and to assure delivery on time and in the volumes required.
Fractus antennas are easily integrated into mobile devices and telecoms infrastructure using existing technologies and materials. Manufacturers therefore have no need to change production processes or deal with special materials.

Markets
A worldwide manufacturing capability and partnerships with global companies such as Siemens Mobile Communications and Richardson Electronics enable Fractus to compete
internationally in all key telecoms markets.
Fractus antennas are currently developed and manufactured for the mobile handset, wireless device and telecoms base station sectors.
Fractus products provide customers with the following benefits:
n Mobile Handset Antennas: multi-band behaviour, rapid prototyping and customisation to the individual handset environment resulting in cost-competitive, high performance
devices.
n Short-Range Wireless Antennas: ease of integration into industrial designs, high
performance and low-cost for Bluetooth®, WLAN a/b/g/j/n, GPS and Zigbee, UWB,
Wimax and next generation short-range communication protocols.
n Base Station Antennas: reduced visual impact and a blind zone to avoid interference with
neighbouring cells, ability to evolve with changing telecoms standards.
Recent Developments
Fractus is leading the development of Antenna in Package (AiP) technology to enable
the next stage of mobile device integration – miniaturised antennas produced as an
integral component of the semiconductor package within a mobile device.

Optimised Antennas for Wireless Devices
What are Fractals?
Fractals are geometric patterns that are repeated at ever smaller scales to produce irregular shapes and surfaces. Classical geometry limits the packing of large wavelengths into small devices. By leveraging the space-filling properties of fractals, Fractus is able to extract the maximum performance from miniature antennas. The fractal repetition of patterns at reducing scales also enables Fractus to design multiband antennas with the highest possible density of bands.
Fractus
Fractus designs and manufactures miniature and multi-band antennas for mobile and wireless applications that provide high performance and are cost effective and easy to integrate.
Using the unique space-filling and multi-level properties of fractals as the backbone of its technology, Fractus develops antennas that improve performance and increase
design options for mobile phones, short-range wireless (Bluetooth, WLAN, UWB, Zigbee/RFID devices, etc.), base stations and military applications.
Fractus is headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, with an Asia-Pacific sales and R&D centre in Seoul, Korea. It is a privately funded company backed by Apax Partners, 3i Europe and other investors. Fractus has a significant IP portfolio which protects both the company’s inventions and customers’ use of those innovations.
