GINA Biography
How it all began.… • International movie icon Gina Lollobrigida, summarised her career objective as: ‘My cinema is different from other cinema today, I thought that it would not be bad to show the kind of cinema where we could dream’ • One of her ardent fans, Mehmet Kurdash had a dream; to create glamorous hand-finished shoes, which illustrated exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail and breathtaking design. • Taking the words and stylish beauty of his muse as inspiration, Mehmet launched GINA to the London fashion scene in 1954 - continuing a family tradition established since 1893 which utilises an expert eye and artisanal craft and skill. • From design, to manufacture to finishing, GINA remains one of the only luxury goods propositions which are a truly British – ‘Cool Brittania’ for the last 50 years! • Today Mehmet’s sons Attila, Aydin and Altan Kurdash are the combined talent who continue to pioneer the GINA artisan tradition. Skills which were developed in the late 19th century are therefore evident within the luxurious exclusive collections available today. • The Sloane Street boutique opened to resounding success in 1991. This was followed by the Old Bond Street store in 1999, as demand for GINA amongst the fashion cognoscenti began to outstrip supply – a unique position for a British luxury goods house to find itself in. • Very few brands can claim to unite ‘Rock, Royalty and the Hollywood A-list’ as their International audience, GINA discreetly occupy this enviable position. • Whether it’s a Hollywood blockbuster, the reddest of red carpet, Royal nuptials or the latest pop video of music industry princesses, GINA are always preferred to walk these glamorous paths. • Through design, dedication and creative inspiration, the GINA hallmark therefore emerges as a unique proposition; stylishly arresting collections, created with the finest materials, for the true fashion connoisseur.
