Mosaicos de Diseño DBA Original Mission Tile is a business run by three generations stablished in San Luis Potosi, right in the center of Mexico in 1900. Original Mission Tile is currently working under the direction of Mr. Federico Arturo Stevens Amaro , founder's grandson, who is looking for the business expansion introducing and reviving the product in foreign markets following all international market policies.
Original Mission Tile is a hand-crafted, custom floor tile, which has been in use since the late 1800's, many original floors are still in use today, whether commercial or residential areas, indoors or out. Original Mission Tile's ornate and colorful designs are a perfect complement to any room, cabana or foyer. Endless color and pattern combinations can be chosen to match any desired design and décor. The original fabrication technique was developed in 18th century in Italy using various natural colors of marble dust and Portland cement. This extremely durable technique of tile production eventually spread throughout Europe and North Africa, with each country adding design influence to create distintive cultural styles. Our production facility in central Mexico continues this tile tradition, producing a wide variety of beautiful designs and colors created using cement pigments and marble dust poured into molds overlaid on portland cement. The design or color layer is 1/4" thick, giving the tile a tremendous surface life, able to withstand years of foot traffic and all wheater conditions. The tiles are hydraulically pressed to increase density and strenght and then cured under water for 24 hours to give them extra hardness. Many of the original floors set with Original Mission Tile before the turn of the century are still in use today. Original Mission Tile can be found in many historic neighborhoods and public buildings throughout the US and Mexico. Most Original Mission Tile patterns are 4 tiles grouped to create striking repeating designs. A wide variaty of border tiles and solid colors tiles are also available to create still striking, yet more economical floor and wall coverings. The 5/8" thickness of these tiles makes them compatible as inlays or details combined with other materials such as hardwood, stone and terracota flooring. Our color pallette offers over 40 different colors. You may also create your signature by customizing these simple to complex patterns to your own color specifications. Original Mission Tile has been honored with two design awards, our products were selected for "proud hands" a judged exhibition of hand made and one of a kind architectural products sponsored by Austin Women in Architecture, the Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and the Laguna Gloria Art Museum. Also we have received a product award at the International Interior Design Exposition in Toronto Canada. Awards Our products have been published in International magazines recognizing our great quality and well looking designs, like Metropolitan Home, Interior Design and Ultra . Also our products have been exhibited in the most important tile and covers shows "Coverings". We are very proud because our tiles overcome the tiles from Europe and Africa , thanks to our quality, prices and our disposition to spoil our clients by granting all their wishes with colors and designs. Our tile is an ecological product, because while regular tile is fired, our is hydraulically pressed to increase its density and stregth and then cured under water for extra hardness and make it durable enough to give years of maintenance free pleasure.
