Closing Report: C-B-R Leisure and Travel 2006

Top marks for the sections on tourism, wellness and cycling •Tremendous interest in holiday and travel information •Popular new sections on wellness, golfing and cycling •Exhibitors pleased with visitor reactions and quality •Around 125,000 visitors on five days •Positive response from exhibitors and visitors to the accompanying programme.

Around 125,000 visitors came along to C-B-R Leisure and Travel 2006, which took place from 18 to 22 February 2006 at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. They came to review, book and buy the products and services offered by the 1,453 exhibitors from 71 countries. In total this extensive display occupied 66,000 square metres of exhibition space. Tourism was once again the main focus of visitor interest. Three out of four visitors came to this section to find out about a wide range of holiday offers.
The new sections on wellness, golf and cycling were extremely popular. According to a survey conducted by independent market researchers TNS Infratest, 88% of the surveyed visitors to the wellness section rated it ‘excellent to good’. 79% of the cycling fans at C-B-R Leisure and Travel gave the same top rating to the cycling section and 65% of those surveyed rated the golf section also as ‘excellent to good’.
“These positive figures show us that it was just the right thing to do to include these new themes in C-B-R Leisure and Travel 2006. The exhibitors welcome the reorientation of the fair. Over 70% of them rated the extension of the range to include wellness, golf and cycling as a very positive development. The many event spaces and displays at C-B-R Leisure and Travel 2006 were particularly attractive to the visitors – for example the canoeing pool, the climbing and boulder wall, the cycle test track, the indoor surfing facility, the putting green, the C-B-R Marina and the big C-B-R show stage,” said Norbert Bargmann, Managing Director of Messe München GmbH.
The new golf and wellness section in particular was seen by this year´s partners of Austria and the European Spa World (ESW) as a special enhancement of the range. Both were therefore very happy with the decision to appear together as partners at this year´s C-B-R Leisure and Travel. Alfred Herz-Digruber, Project Director of European Spa World: “This was the first time we appeared together as partners and exhibitors at C-B-R Leisure and Travel, and we were impressed by the tremendous interest we attracted from visitors at our stand. We achieved in full our goal of enthusing new visitors for the wellness region and of meeting up again with our regular guests.” The marketing manager of Österreich Werbung, Birgit Koller-Hartl, too, found that this partnership was the right choice at C-B-R Leisure and Travel 2006, because of EWS´s extensive wellness and golfing facilities.
The exhibitors were generally very upbeat about the fair. According to the survey conducted by independent market researchers TNS Infratest, C-B-R was rated by 78% of the exhibitors as ‘excellent to good’. Top marks went in particular to visitor frequency, the quality of visitors, the good layout of the fair and the accompanying programme.
Jörn Gersbeck, Steppenwolf´s Sales Director for retailers in Bavaria, was almost euphoric as regards C-B-R: “This fair met our expectations in full. The response from visitors and the level of demand were extremely high. At the weekend demand for mountain bikes was very strong, mainly because of the younger audience that came along. Our dealers had already made a number of sales to visitors by Monday. C-B-R is an optimum platform for the cycling market.”
Felix Wolf, Course Manager at GolfRange, also shares this view of the success of the fair: “We were very happy with the number of visitors to C-B-R. We were able to make contact with lots of golfing novices who were interested in taking taster courses, which is just what we aimed to do at this fair. We hope that next year the golfing section will be bigger, so that the visitors can get a broader spectrum of what´s on offer.”
The subject of health, in particular preventative healthcare, was also a big topic, in the ‘Vital World’ section at C-B-R. The exhibitors were particularly enthusiastic about it. Prof. Dr. med. Ernst Weissenbacher, Chairman of the Committee on ‘Women and Healthy Lifestyles’ commented: “Our goal at C-B-R 2006 was to introduce a section on health. Our expectations and those of the exhibitors in Vital World were met 100%. The idea went down very well with the visitors. I think the health market is a growth market. The show stage in Vital World was also a real attraction to the visitors. We will be back again next year at C-B-R Leisure and Travel, but with a larger presentation.”
The accompanying programme at C-B-R Leisure and Travel 2006 underlined this year, too, the high experiential value of the fair. 78% of the visitors gave the top rating of ‘excellent to good’ to the accompanying programme of C-B-R Leisure and Travel. The exhibitors, too, praised the events space. Daniel Ciasto, Alpha Bikes and Sports: “The trials events on the cycling course were a tremendous success.” Frank Ritter, Marketing and Sale, Best of Canada, was amazed at the programme on the C-B-R show stage and recognised that it had a positive effect on the number of visitors coming to his stand.
Taking place at C-B-R Leisure and Travel for the first time this year was a sporting competition for Munich schoolchildren, organised in cooperation with the education department of Munich city council. The participants were tested on their abilities in a range of disciplines – cycling, golf, sailing and canoeing, climbing, table-tennis and surfing. The children were all very enthusiastic about the challenge and the exhibitors praised the competition as an excellent initiative for young people.
Also well attended were the trade events such as the Bavarian Tourism Day, the Bavarian Sailors Day (including awards ceremony for the 2005 champions), the Mediterranean Skippers Meeting, the presentation of the ADAC Camping and Caravanning Guide, the awards ceremony for Europe´s best campsites and the Tourism Forum.
C-B-R Leisure and Travel was again attended by various foreign delegations. Special mention is made of the delegation from the Republic of Croatia, led by the government president Dr Ivo Sanadaer and the Minister for Maritime Affairs, Tourism, Transport and Development, Bozidar Kalmeta. President Dr. Sanader was very enthusiastic about C-B-R Leisure and Travel and announced officially that the Republic of Croatia would be the partner of C-B-R Leisure and Travel 2007.
The next C-B-R Leisure and Travel will be held at the new Munich Trade Fair Centre from Thursday, 22 February, to Monday, 26 February 2007. This press release and the latest photos from the fair can be found on the press pages of C-B-R Leisure and Travel´s website: www.c-b-r.de.
