Competition hots up at the Restaurant Show

The Restaurant Show, running from 18 – 20 September 2006 at Olympia in London, is the only show dedicated to the restaurant trade with specially created food and drink areas showcasing the world’s best produce and brands.

This year The Restaurant Show’s dedicated food section and features are set to cause a stir, with a number of hot competitions and events, including:Compass Group Chef of the Year 2006. Compass Group is delighted to be holding its Junior and Senior Compass Group Chef of the Year culinary competitions at The Restaurant Show on 19th September 2006. The 16 junior and 16 senior finalists, selected from divisional heats taking place across Compass Group, will each have 1.5hrs to prepare and cook a fine dining meal live using set ingredients. Compass Group Chef of the Year is sponsored by Knorr and VT Plus Training.
World Chocolate Masters
The World Chocolate Masters is a top-level competition for chocolate craftsmen, in 20 countries worldwide, offering them a forum to showcase their skills.  Organised by Barry Callebaut (the world's leading supplier of high-quality chocolate and related products) this contest promotes the creative use of top-quality chocolate in all its applications.  This year's competition theme is "National Myths and Legends". The contestants make showpieces, pralines, pastry and a "Mystery Dessert" with ingredients they will first discover during the contest.   The winner of the national heats – announced at The Restaurant Show – will represent the UK at the international finals in 2008. The Craft Guild of Chefs and The Link Foundation announce the New Zealand-UK Culinary Challenge Competition
Budding chefs are given the opportunity to win a first prize valued at over £5,000, which incorporates a month work experience in New Zealand’s best and most innovative restaurants. Following a series of intensive heats, the finals at for the competition will take place at The Restaurant Show, followed by the official award ceremony at the penthouse suite of New Zealand House in London on 2nd Oct. Interchef Western Australia Recipe Challenge
The first Western Australia Recipe Challenge competition has been launched by Interchef, offering contestants the chance to win an exclusive trip to Australia.  The paper heat requires chefs to devise a simple grill and barbecue recipe using Western Australia’s finest ingredients and reflecting their high quality while giving a feel for the relaxed outdoor lifestyle of The Real Australia. Five finalists will be selected to cook their dish in front of the judging panel at the Restaurant Show.  The Craft Guild of Chefs will oversee the paper judging of this exciting new competition as well as joining the judging panel for the final. The winner will receive the prize of a lifetime with a trip for two to Western Australia worth over £8,000. With one week spent cooking with Chef Chris Taylor of Fraser’s Restaurant in Perth using all the best seafood and local ingredients, followed by a unique and relaxed food-lovers tour of the area in week two. In addition to these features, he Restaurant Show will be pack with the latest food and drink ideas and developments, as well as restaurant design innovations.
