Florence 99% contemporary
On the occasion of the exhibition Human Game. Winners and Losers, the special event linked to the 70th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo, opening at the Stazione Leopolda on 21 June, the galleries, institutions and spaces devoted to contemporary art in and around Florence, in cooperation with the Fondazione Pitti Discovery, will present Florence 99% Contemporary. A series of openings and international exhibitions that will further enrich the calendar of events in the city during the fashion fairs and the whole month of July.
Florence 99% Contemporary is a strategic choice in and on the city shared by many cultural operators who - for the first time are coordinating dates, schedules, itineraries and objectives - want to prove that Florence is a city that produces contents and is not merely a destination at the disposal of mass tourism.
The goal of Florence 99% Contemporary is to construct an ongoing system of multiple offerings and to bring to light the surprising number of places and people who give life to the city that is otherwise known and respected only for its history. Florence 99% Contemporary is an open project in evolution, with no restrictions in terms of themes and categories, held together by a common feeling for contemporaneity, cultural exuberance and quality curation. Florence 99% Contemporary is a communication and promotional project conducted in a very concrete and simple way through: invitations, maps, advertising and word-of-mouth. To date, the participants number: Base, Biagiotti Progetto Arte, Brancolini Grimaldi Arte Contemporanea e Gallery Art Hotel, Castello di Ama, Comune di Scandicci/Associazione Arte Continua, Daniele Ugolini Contemporary, Galleria Alessandro Bagnai, Galleria Continua, Fondazione Pitti Discovery, Fondazione Studio Marangoni, Fondazione Targetti, Galleria Poggiali e Forconi, La Corte Arte Contemporanea, Museo Marino Marini, Quarter Centro Produzione Arte, Sergio Tossi Arte Contemporanea, Vianuova Arte Contemporanea. These galleries want to use the “capital” of communicational and economic programs and energies which the fashion fairs bring into the city, to promote their single initiatives and mainly their common desire to strengthen the city’s contemporary identity. Florence as a destination in and of the present, is an indispensable concept for the survival of its historical identity because all art, today’s and yesterday’s is and always has been contemporary. The project has been realized with the valuable cooperation of Provincia di Firenze.
