Exhibitors express strong satisfaction with business trends professional visitors up by 7% emerging markets well represented
SAIE 2006, the 42nd International Building Exhibition held in Bologna, has come to a very successful conclusion with an attendance figure of more than 176,000 professional visitors, 7% up on the 2005 show.
Once again SAIE has confirmed its reputation as one of the leading European events devoted to architecture and building and an unmissable appointment for companies and the sector community keen to discover the latest novelties and innovations showcased by exhibitors. The industry professionals attending showed a strong interest in the exhibited technical solutions for the production of high-quality architecture and building. SAIE 2006 saw strong attendance by foreign professionals. These included large numbers of visitors from the Eastern European countries about to join the European Union alongside states from the former Soviet Union and former Yugoslavia, currently amongst the most promising markets for Italian and international companies. The same trend was evidenced by the foreign delegations visiting the show, which included strong participation by these countries as well as the new central Asian oil states such as Kazakhstan. THEMES IN THE SPOTLIGHT The themes of Energy Efficiency and Safety are currently at the centre of attention in the design world due to a greater awareness of the environment and quality of life and the economic impacts of these issues. SAIE 2006 included two very interesting events devoted to Energy Efficiency and Safety which offered industry professionals an overview of key international products and technological proposals aimed at effective use of energy resources and high safety standards. The exhibition part of the show was complemented by numerous conferences devoted to the most topical issues for “intelligent building” professionals. The debate on Energy Efficiency covered themes ranging from energy-saving domotics to certification and the use of solar energy and other renewable sources to solve energy emergencies. The discussion of Safety included an analysis of the situation 10 years after the introduction of Italian law 494/96 and focused on large-scale tunnelling works, training, work on existing building stock and work at heights. The theme of Safety was also addressed in the CRESME-SAIE REPORT, unveiled the day before the opening of SAIE on 24 October 2006. The report devoted an entire chapter to the theme (Safety in the Tower of Babel) and focused in particular on a series of highly topical issues including foreign and often illegal labour and hyper-specialisation that highlight the need for effective, interdisciplinary responses to safety in the building sector. INNOVATION AT SAIE 2006 Today SAIE is one of the leading European events exploring the most innovative production and technological proposals available on the market. It is a unique and increasingly innovative meeting platform for architecture and building professionals and producer companies. To make it easier for visitors to identify the most significant innovations from the wide range of proposals on show, SAIE produced the third edition of the SAIE NEW PRODUCT GUIDE featuring more than 360 products judged as highly innovative. The exhibition revealed a mature building market with constantly improving products that is highly attentive to component specialisation and sustainability/quality of buildings and their inhabitants and which at the same time is committed to offering designers up-to-date and effective construction site tools that use the most sophisticated techniques together with traditional techniques adapted to modern requirements. The sectors that saw the largest number of innovations were: building systems/procedures, materials for insulation and waterproofing, technical equipment/plants, machines and machinery, software and technical clothing. BOLOGNA THE CAPITAL OF BUILDING CULTURE SAIE is renowned as one of the leading international events devoted to the architecture and building sector due to its capacity to combine products and industry culture. The show fosters cultural debate and is also an opportunity for gaining a preview of the prospects and development of the market and for focusing attention on the entire construction process, from urban planning to the use of the most appropriate components and techniques. This year’s SAIE fully achieved its objectives, offering the more than 176,500 industry professionals in attendance a packed programme of meetings that fulfilled their requirements for in-depth analysis. CORE EXHIBIT, the customary appointment devoted to large-scale architecture, initiated a new triennial cycle this year devoted to THE CHANGING FACE OF ITALY: CITIES IN COMPETITION, which focused on the transformations and developments that are changing the outward appearance and lifestyles of Italian cities. As usual, the initiative consisted of an international conference, an exhibition and a book (published by BE-MA Editrice). SAIE 2007 WILL BE HELD IN BOLOGNA FROM 24 TO 28 OCTOBER 2007
