UNESCO Geo-park Conference in Juni 2008 in Osnabrueck

Osnabrueck is the only large German city which is situated in the middle of a natural park – the UNESCO Geo-park TERRA.vita. The 1,220 square kilometre park is one of six regions in Germany that are members of the Geo-parks global network.

After Beijing and Belfast, Osnabrueck is to host next year’s Geo-parks conference which will be attended by around 600 participants. Osnabrueck consists of one-third water and green space. It is also serves as seat of the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU).

Dr. Fritz Brickwedde, General Secretary of the DBU, has confirmed financial support of €160,000 for next year’s conference. ‘This support enables us not only to organise the conference in a professional fashion, but also to organise an attractive and varied accompanying programme which will incorporate not only the conference participants but also the citizens of Osnabrueck’ says a happy Hartmut Escher, Managing Director of TERRA.vita and Chairperson of the conference organizing committee. From 22nd to 26th June 2008 Osnabrueck will witness a large and exciting public exhibition, a Geo-park party, various film showings and lectures from renowned speakers on the subject of ‘The Green Centre of the World’.

In 2007 the attractiveness of Stuttgart as an events venue will reach a peak with the opening (19th October) of the new exhibition centre, “Neue Messe Stuttgart”, which also comprises the ICS International Congresscenter Stuttgart: with an exhibition area of 100 000 sq.m. and highly flexible congress halls and conference rooms for 20 – 4 500 participants and/or a total capacity of some 9 000 visitors, the new exhibition and congress centre will provide an exceptional range of possibilities for staging events in the most modern of surroundings directly adjacent to Stuttgart International Airport and the motorway.

These and an outstanding range of numerous other congress centres, conference hotels and locations are presented clearly and in detail, in German and English, in the new Meeting Guide.  The 270 competent providers - more than ever before - are proof that Baden-Württemberg’s state capital and its surrounding region are in great demand as a venue for business, academic and political functions.
